Chinese New Year Spending in The UK
It’s the year of the dog and the arrival of the Chinese New Year will attract big spends in the UK!
The event has seen 38% year on year growth in orders with shoppers consuming travel, fitness and wellbeing products.
Online sales peaked with a 76% increase in traffic online.
- Photography equipment grew 19%
- Health and wellness grew 83%
- Food and drink grew 28%
However these consumers aren’t just buying any regular products, a 32% increase in online orders to luxury high-end stores during the New Year period suggests that consumers are favouring quality.
2018 Mobile Spending
Aside from Chinese New Year, mobile sales are set to peak this year! Forrester Research Inc estimates that mobile sales from smartphones and tablets will increase 32% in 2018! That’s a lot of spending!
This forecast suggests that smartphones will impact 34% of online sales in the U.S. in 2018 alone. That equates to more than $1 trillion!
Are the ways of mobile spending expanding?
Over this past weekend, Nike has become the first brand to sell a product directly through the Snapchat app.
This is thanks to the introduction of the new Snap Store! Originally, the store was launched in early February as a merchandise store. Originally the store stocked lots of Snapchat themed items!
However, Snapchat may be making a wider move into ecommerce with thanks to Shopify and Darkstore.
The app’s consumers were able to scan an exclusive code via Snapchat and gain access to a special pre-release of the Nike Air Jordan III Tinker.
These shoes sold out in a total of 23 minutes! These shoes will not be fully released until March 24 at Nike’s online store. Thanks to the buzz surrounding these shoes and the Snapchat prerelease, the online drop of these shoes will be highly anticipated!
