The best things in life…come in pairs.

Pretty sure I’ve mixed up my metaphors there, but the point I’m undoubtedly failing to make is that ‘two’ is often better than ‘one’.

When I think about my favorite on-screen characters, they’re usually part of a double act (even if one is given a higher credit over the other). Batman may have liked to portray the image of a lone wolf, but even he accepted the merits of a supportive sidekick.

Within a double act, the two parties are very different people on an individual level, but when they come together, they bring the best out of each other’s unique characteristics.

Infamous detectives Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson were fairly unsuccessful individuals before they decided to reside at 221B Baker Street together.

Holmes always had amazing powers of deduction, and Watson was a perfectly adequate doctor.  Yet it was only through a combination of those skills, and Watson chronicling their adventures (making them famous) that they had the opportunity to work on such exotic cases.

Holmes actually once said to Watson (in Hound of the Baskervilles), “It may be that you are not yourself luminous, but you are a conductor of light.”

In the best partnerships, one person is the pioneer; the innovator. The other adds logic to the proceedings and helps to steer the ship by setting it on the right course.

It’s that kind of thinking which inspired us in our latest products: ‘Email my Basket’ and ‘Marketing Permission Service’.

We knew our clients faced a challenge – how to reach more people and encourage more email sign-ups, whilst maintaining compliance with new strict privacy laws (for example, GDPR in the EU.)

So we went into our mind palace and came up with an idea…

We know that 75% of visitors add something to their shopping cart but don’t complete the purchase.  So we came up with ‘Email My Basket’ to provide people with an innovative route back to their cart when they are more ready to buy.

With our Marketing Permission Service, the messaging in these notifications can help you collect general marketing consent, at the same time a basket email is requested.  It’s all about helping you dot the i’s and cross the t’s.

With innovative remarketing and the ability to tick all our clients’ compliance checklists, the game was indeed on.

The Unique Characteristics of Email My Basket

Like the great detective himself, we scientifically track users’ behavior online.  If they’ve put an item in their cart, we can identify the exact moment they are about to abandon their purchase.

Elementary? This the clever bit:

A notification appears to offer to send users their basket by email, so they don’t have to go through the process all over again should they change their mind.  We’ve helped our clients implement some really slick designs for these messages – check out some examples in this ‘Lookbook’

The email that gets sent is highly personalized, and provides a quick route back to purchase – at a time that’s more convenient.  Plus, it ensures you stay top of their mind.

With this type of methodology, we’ve helped SaleCycle clients to achieve eye-watering results such as 55% open rates and 28% click-through rates.

The Unique Characteristics of Marketing Permission Service

Today there’s more data privacy legislation being introduced than a Vulcan has protocols. So it’s more important than ever that brands make sure they stay on top of compliance to keep their marketing campaigns firing.

Our Marketing Permission Service collects ‘opt ins’ and ‘opt outs’ anywhere on your site (in real-time).

We also identify which country your visitors are in, and show different messages (opt-in or opt-out) based on what’s legislatively required.

The service will also know if visitors are new or have bought from you before, or if an email address has previously opted-in or out,  to ensure these on-site messages are only displayed when needed.

Combining the Two

On the good ship Enterprise, Kirk and Spock have one of the best partnerships ever committed to fiction. Whilst Kirk is the captain, and for all intent and purposes is in charge of the five-year mission, he couldn’t go boldly where no man has been before without his loyal Vulcan First Officer.

With more choices for the customer than ever before, it’s crucial that companies never leave a willing buyer behind, whilst ensuring the strictest levels of compliance under the watchful eyes of new data laws.

‘Email my Basket’ and ‘Marketing Permission Service’ are the ideal partnership for ecommerce brands who seek to offer a powerful user experience.

Just as Kirk relied on Spock unfailingly for his advice, if you have any questions about how to use these features to power up your marketing campaigns, please get in touch with us.
